Héctor Joaquín BLOG EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

www.hectorjoaquin.com . Your Real Source of Beauty Pageants
I have a passion for gaining new life experiences. I believe that we're always changing and always evolving and we've never really "arrived". And if we're able to see the world and meet, new people, and experience new cultures, it can develop us tremendously. Dancing, playing the piano, going to the beach, traveling, photography, videography, reading, and staying active are my hobbies. I am thankful for everything and everyone that God has brought into my life.
I love high heels, big hair, fabulous makeup, fake eyelashes, and rhinestones! i've got big big plans, and one day you'll see my name in lights ;)
Tell something about your family, your childhood and your experience in beauty pageants.
I grew up in a very multicultural household. I’ve been exposed to lots of different cultures and traditions and I can’t say that I identify with only one. I proudly embrace all of them! Bahamian, Haitian, Dominican, Irish, and American. I come from a very tight-knit family that is very supportive of me. I am an only child, but I have lots of amazing friends and cousins and definitely make up for that. I competed in my first beauty pageant when I was only 6 years old! Ever since then I’ve been in love with everything that pageantry stands for. Pageants have afforded me a world of opportunities that I probably would have never gotten otherwise.
What is your motto? What does that motto mean to you?
My motto is a quote by Eleanor Roosevelt, “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams”. This is a quote that inspires me in so many ways. It motivates me to go after my dreams and to always believe in myself, because if I don’t no one else will. It teaches me to be patient and to persevere through tough times, and most of all it reminds me to see the beauty in everything.
If you could change one thing about you, what would it be?
If I could change one thing about myself it would be my habit of spreading myself too thin. I have a tendency to take on a lot of projects at the same time and I end up getting overwhelmed. The good thing is that I can always get the job done, the bad thing is that I cause myself unnecessary stress!
What is in your bag right now?
Yesterday I asked my friend to hold my purse and she asked if I was carrying bricks! I normally like to carry a lot of random items with me, just in case of an emergency. On any given day you can find: my wallet, my keys, my 2 cell phones (international & US), my camera, my ipod & headphones, my makeup bag, a pair of flip flops, business cards, a small notebook, hand sanitizer, band-aids, vitamins, a protein bar, bubble gum, a few receipts, & old airline boarding passes (I travel very often).
How are you preparing for the Miss Universe pageant?
I’m staying as healthy as possible… physically and mentally. I’m in the gym about 5 days a week working on cardio and toning, and I watch what I eat. I’m also working on my wardrobe, which I am very excited about! I have a fabulous team of people getting me ready. I can’t wait for Brazil!!
What's your nickname?
Stagia … or StagiaFierce ;)
What was the most embarrassing moment you ever had?
It happened a couple of years ago at Green Fashion Week in Miami Beach. The designer put me in a piece that was too big for me in the bust area. I tried to tell him that I didn’t feel comfortable, but he insisted that it was a perfect fit. Well, as I walked the runway I could feel the top slipping down with each step I took, and when I reached to pull it up, it fell down to my waist! Thankfully I was wearing a half bra, so I wasn’t completely exposed to the entire world! Needless to say, it got tons of press, but I was so embarrassed when I saw my pictures all over the Internet the next day!
What is your Good-Luck Charm?
I don’t have a physical good luck charm, but whenever I am in a situation that makes me nervous or anxious, I always say the prayer that my mom used to tell me when I was a little girl. It calms my nerves and I feel like only good things will come to me after I’ve said it.
Which living person do you most admire?
My mother is my biggest inspiration. I feel like all mothers are admirable because of everything that they sacrifice for their children. Another person I truly admire is Mother Teresa. She was the epitome of a humanitarian, and unfortunately there aren’t many people like her in the world today. I try to live my life the way she did by treating everyone as equals.
What is your personal opinion on same sex marriage?
My personal opinion is that everyone has a right to be happy. I can understand both sides of the discussion regarding same sex marriage, however I think everyone deserves an equal opportunity be in a committed relationship with whoever they’re in love with.
